New York, N.Y., December 13, 2011 - Screenvision, a leading innovator in cinema advertising and alternative content programming, is partnering with Ace Arts, a curator and provider of high quality performing arts content for presentation in cinema, to bring three of the opera's most acclaimed new stars into movie theaters in early 2012. The attraction, entitled “3 Superstars in Berlin,” will be available in more than 300 movie theaters across the U.S. and Canada on January 26 and February 1, 2012.
“3 Superstars in Berlin” brings a trio of the biggest names in opera together for a once in a lifetime performance, from one of the world's most stunning outdoor stages, Berlin's Waldbuhne. The event stars the opera world's current number one star, the beautiful Anna Netrebko, the first and only opera singer to be named to the TIME 100, the magazine's list of the world's most influential people. Netrebko has appeared with nearly all of the world's great opera companies, including the San Francisco Opera, London's Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera, the Paris Opera, the Zurich Opera, the Berlin State Opera and as star of the Metropolitan Opera's critically-acclaimed presentation of Donizetti's Anna Bolena. Her fame has also spread beyond the world of opera, via performances at venues including New York's Carnegie Hall and London's Royal Albert Hall and personality profiles in high-profile media including CBS “60 Minutes,” Vogue Italia, Vanity Fair and The
New York Times.
With “3 Superstars in Berlin,” Netrebko is joined by baritone Erwin Schrott, and star tenor Jonas Kaufmann, in a program that includes famous duets from Bernstein's West Side Story, Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and Puccini's Manon Lescaut, as well as popular Tango duets and arias from Mozart (Leporello's aria from Don Giovanni) and excerpts from Gounod's Faust.
Interestingly, opera is one of the cultural events best positioned to appeal to theater audiences. According to a 2011 study of adults 18+ by Gfk-MRI Doublebase, frequent movie-goers, those who attend one or more times per month, are 112% more likely to attend a classical music performance or opera once per month, and 57% more likely to attend the same within a 12-month period.
“3 Superstars in Berlin” is being supported with promotion on a multitude of platforms targeting opera devotees, including millions of email newsletters, spots on Classicaltv.com, the Martini Media and Tremor Networks, and connected TVs such as Google TV and Roku, social media outreach, publicity and more. Participating theaters will feature posters and promotional spots for the attraction beginning in mid-December.
“Theaters are the one venue where people can tune out life's many distractions to truly focus, in this case, on the kind culture they have a true passion for,” said Darryl Schaffer, EVP of Exhibitor Relations, Screenvision. “ ‘3 Superstars in Berlin’ brings a world-class cultural event virtually to the doorstep of music lovers in cities all across North America. We look forward to working with Ace Arts to curate and present this and many other events.”
“This is probably the most appealing and spectacular vocal concert in the global classical calendar”, said Susan Wittenberg, President of Ace Arts. “It is a privilege to be able to bring the greatest performing arts events in the world to the movie theater screens of the US, whose scale and quality of picture and sound make for the best possible environment to experience them. We look forward to bringing more of the finest cultural events from the US and elsewhere to the music and arts-loving public through our exciting new partnership with Screenvision.”
“3 Superstars in Berlin” will be in theaters January 26 and February 1, 2012. The attraction has a running time of 2:15 (135 minutes); suggested price - $20.00 (US).
